Got a Dead USB Flash Drive?

Depending on why it's had the dick, you may be able to bring it back to life fairly easily. Of course it won't work in the case of physical failure, but of the dozens of discarded drives i've done this to, I reckon at least 75% have been recovered. I'm constantly amazed that this method is not more widely known. So here it is, I'm sharing the love.

Often when you get a USB flash drive that gives you that bullshit "Drive x needs to be formatted before you can use it. Do you want to format now?" and you say "Yes" of course and then you get the "Blah blah something has failed blah blah I'm derping something" and the drive seems unusable.

Try this. It basically completely cleans the drive of all previous partitions, formatting, whatever and reformats it for you in NTFS. Select FAT32 on the command line if you need I guess. (cont below)

Ok this is our first ever Excursion Of Doom. We headed to Middle Head on Sydney Harbour and explored the hidden bunkers along the cliffs.

This happened around 2000. And it was where Dumhed and I met.

The first battery on Middle Head was built in 1871 and was designed by James Barnet, a colonial architect. The fort was built on a strategic location and received many additions until 1911. It formed part of a network of 'outer harbour' defences. They were designed to fire at enemy ships as they attempted entry through the Sydney Heads. The whole area is linked by an extensive network of underground tunnels, ancillary rooms, gunpowder magazine and a disappearing gun emplacement. The site also has its own underground power room that is supported by iron columns. The gunners Barracks were built from sandstone quarried on site and still exist to this day, they are located on Middle Head concealed in bushland. Underground tunnels and rooms were used to train some of Australia's first troops that were sent to Vietnam in 'Code of Conduct' courses (lessons in how to withstand torture and interrogation) by simulating prisoner of war conditions.

    More info.

Unfortunately I don't have a back of the story of this excursion. But I remember it!

This was of a tour of the abandoned tunnels under St James Station in Sydney. This station is famous for being many things. A station, a mushroom farm, air raid shelter and it was also used in the subway scenes of the Matrix movies.

Once in a while ethusiasts are allowed to go on guided tours of the stuff hidden behind the station. It was dirty, wet and dark. But it was so awesome.

You can read more about this station and its underground lake here.

This is an article I wrote back when we started ZGeek. I found it on a backup disk and so I am loading it back onto the site.

All this weekend I have been searching for treasure.. Though I found no gold balloons I did find some good stuff.

This is Matt, from here on in he is referred to as "Tresha boy". Matt hails from a family of weirdos and is quite often found in neighbours bins looking for "Treasure". Once we found a 1 kilo bag of his "Treasure". For this, he was severely beaten, lunched apon and painted red.

"Tresha Boy" has only 3 countable fingers and an inverted toe in his lower ear canal, if you see him please talk loudly and in a silly American accent or Tresha boy will not understand you.

After meeting at the "Tresha Cave" we sat and watched Star Wars. This is a good movie, I understand not many people have heard of it nor seen it, but if you do have a chance I would recommend it.

Today I had fun, I meet up with the Geeks and touched my first space shuttle... or did I?. I turns out the Buran shuttle was not much of a shuttle, while it HAS been into space it never had any manned missions, which in itself is pretty impressive.

The Shuttle is based on the American version with a few improvements. Rumor has it that the Russians got the plans from the Internet as the Americans never classified the construction of their shuttles and the plans where a sort of "open source" much like some nice OS's.

Jonathan Nolan the man behind the alleged TV show scam "Starwalker", has emerged from hiding to launch a new venture. According to the Starwalker: It's all a bad fraud website, the new business claims to be setting up solar power facilities in Vanuatu.

This was posted by a Robert Brand.

His latest "business" venture is solar powered ATMs in Vanuatu and solar farms. Pay him a flat fee of $165,000 and he will help you. Quite the entrepreneur. I have actually built solar powered systems. I wonder what his credentials are? He is in the middle of a court case at the moment for not paying actors on past productions and he missed this weeks appearance with rather a flimsy excuse. The group that was claiming was asked what they would like to do and they happy granted him the extra week to make good with the money. He must be pretty hard pressed at the moment to come up with another excuse for next week. This is actually from my viewpoint the start of the legal end for the guy. His wife and he are involved with the company he formed called IMFI Pty Limited. I had thought that she was not involved in his scams, but I have had to rethink this in recent times. I believe that she is really supporting this guy and protecting him.

Mr Brand is still persuing Mr Nolan for alleged unpaid wages in relation to the work he did for the now defunct Starwalker Reality TV show. Mr Nolan was involved in the attempt to sue us for $42.5 million for alleged defamation after users of ZGeek made fun of this conspiracy booklet claiming that nuclear bombs were used in the 9/11 and Bali bombing attacks.

Playing with nuclear weapons in real life is a bother. There are mountains of forms and fees to be dealt with. Bodies have to hidden and there are far too many risky meetings on deserted bridges at midnight to make it worth it.

But in computer games it is a lot more easier. Gone are the days when the BFG was the biggest thing you could wield (Still a kick as gun). Now days you've got your very own nuclear arsenal in your game collection.

These are a bunch of my favorites (in no particular order). So click on the read more to read umm... more.

I just had a strange moment with Symantec. I am testing out various IT Asset management programs for work and I was in the process of installing Altiris Asset Management Suite. During the install this window popped up.

Seriously, what the hell? I just filled out my name, address and gave a stool sample in the screen before (the stool sample was optional but I just wanted to be sure so I posted them one I snapped off earlier.) and now they want to know about my evil plans to take over the world? Come on Symantec, what ever happened to customer privacy?

I wonder how many evil villains they catch using this method? They must be dumb.

Deck a duck for 2010 has been run. What is Deck a duck? Well, let me explain. It is the birthday of this chap (Simon, the guy on the right) which is run by my mate Matt (the guy on the left). They set a date and tell everyone to dress in red, invite everyone they can and meet them on the steps of Sydney's town hall.

From there a duck is released. Not a real one. A dude in a suit. He or she is given a head start and then everyone is free to chase the duck down and hit them with a rolled up newspaper. The first person to get them becomes the next duck.

Sound boring? Pointless? Did I mention the duck is running to a pub? It also happens to be a massive pub crawl of epic proportions. This year which is the third time this has been run looks to be the biggest. I wish I had gone!

    Check out the pictures here.

Yup, and I will do it again.

    No one can stop me.

Not even a diet change. I am going to fart. I love farting. I love to go into the server room at work and farting. The mass of air conditioning and noise in there hides and disperses it. Unfortunately it sometimes brings the network down.

When I am home, I like to strategically place my bum muffins around the house so people can walk into them at their own leisure. I am also a big believer in fermentation. If I am going to visit a friend or relative I don't like (which is all of them) I won't fart for days before hand. Just so when I do take that massive dump into their suddenly non-flushing toilet, I can pop out a savory bum snack for whoever has to deal with it.

I also like to run into a room just after a turd and knock one out so people can get a true feeling of my bathroom experience.

When I am visiting people I make sure to fart loudly. Usually into a vase, urn or child's face. This ensures not only do I experience relief, but I am not longer forced to waste my precious time at dinner parties.

So yeah. I farted and as soon as I figure out how to embed one on ZGeek. I am going to be king.

And here I was having a shitty monday morning.

It seems someone has taken another shot at the Sydney Apple store. Breaking another of their million dollar windows.

It looks like someone shot it. I'm no CSI dude but the hole is round and it seems to go several layers into the glass panel (I only had a quick look). Either way, I am going to warm myself with the though that someone busted a cap in Apples ass and they lose another million bucks

A topic for discussion my fellow geeks. A few days ago my work bought Symantec Ghost Solution Suite 2.5 Enterprise System Builder. But it doesn't work. We need to image a bunch of Dell E6410 laptops and this software just won't work. It is documented on the Symantec site as a fault with their software and have released a patch to fix it. But it's not available via the liveupdate and it's not on their site for download.

I have rung technical support. I've asked if could have a link to the patch so I can download it. And they won't give it to me. Why? Because I have to purchase technical support.

So, I've got here software that doesn't work with new computers. I do my own research and find the fix (it wasn't that hard, thank you Google). And they want to charge me extra to fix their faulty software. Is this fair? Or is this a complete and utter rip off? What do you think?

Yes, this an actual article bagging out a phone OTHER than an iPhone (well I do bag it a little). I will even go on record to say that the iPhone is better than this phone.

I've had constant problems with my Nokia N97. Almost on a daily basis. It will lock itself and refuse to be unlocked without me removing the battery to reboot it. The radio won't work randomly until I reboot it and currently it's taken to "phantom charging" where it tells me it's suddenly charging despite it not being plugged into anything. And then the battery dies in half the time. The GPS is unusable while I drive due to the slow processing speed of the phone.

Basically, this supposed 'flag ship' product from Nokia (who I've been a customer of for over 10 years) have sold me a buggy phone that is a lesson in frustration and the bastards refuse to fix it.

I have sought help from Nokia. I've asked to send the phone in for repair twice but on each occasion I was told all my problems are known software bugs that will be fixed via firmware releases. Which funnily enough, have not.

Nokia has moved on to new phones and totally neglected the suckers like me who bought a N97.

So what's the point of this rant? Simply to express my opinion that you shouldn't buy Nokia. They seem to have gone from Awesome to cluster-fuck in a vain effort to beat the iPhone. It's so obvious that this phone (which was released around the same time as the 3GS iPhone) was a rush job. It seems that from the amount of issues it's had, they totally forgot the testing phase of development.

But not only that, but their famous Symbian OS is like the phone equivalent of Windows 95 now days (iPhone is Windows 3.11 because you can't multitask). There is just nothing out there for it. All the devs have moved to making apps for the iPhone and Android platforms.

So basically you'd be fucking stupid to buy any new Nokia. I would say their one saving grace is the quality of their phones. But it looks like that has gone out the window too.

I would love to hear your opinion on this subject, feel free to comment in the... ummm.. comments. My plans now are to wait for my contract to finish and then I am going to strap a rocket to this device and blow it the fuck up.

Yes, I promise to film it.

ZGeek member Hymartin has taken a trip to the 2010 World Expo in China.

I'm coming home in an hour and a half, knackered as fcuk! Bought a 3-Day ticket, and it's only been 2 days. Fortunately I managed to sell the ticket (the ticket can be used one more time) this afternoon. I didn't visit all the pavilions as it's impossible in 3 days, I'd like to think one needs about 1-2 weeks to see them all.

I was inside from 9am - 12am these 2 days, only got a few hours to sleep everyday...

He's delivered a lot of photos and comments in this thread and it's well worth checking out.

Many years ago. My sister and I sneaked onto a property in the Sydney suburb of Glebe to take some photos of an abandoned old building. Unfortunately I didn't go inside as it looked too scary.

The building which was called Hamilton, is on the grounds of The Abbey which is an old church property located in Glebe, Australia. It was converted into a restaurant but it closed many years ago. When that happened, the owners wanted to demolish the heritage listed house so they could build a conference centre and a block of flats. They wanted it so bad that they actually tore the roof off the building to hasten its destruction by the elements.

Luckily the City of Sydney council heard about it and took them to court. They won and the owners were forced to install a brand new roof and protect the structure.

Over the years the building has been sitting silent. But now, it is completely rebuilt and has been sold. Soon to be some lucky bastards home.

The house has now been renamed Reussdale after it's designer and it looks to be around for a long, long time. Unfortunately the Abbey is still in it's abandoned state next door. I've included a few shots of it at the end of the large amount of photos you'll see in the read more. Warning, lots of images ahead.

My little sister is traveling the world right now, working on a cruise ship based out of the US. Today I got an email from her which is full of awesome and win. She got to meet Nick Maley in St Marteens. Who is Nick Maley? No one special. Just one of the awesome special affects chaps who created Yoda. He is also the guy responsible for the special effects in another movie you may not have heard of. Krull. If you've not seen Krull then you've missed the coolest spinning blades of death to be shown on film.

So my sister is doing her part to pimp ZGeek, what are you doing? We are currently offering a flying, screaming monkey (they slingshot through the air screaming. It's cool.) or a t-shirt of your choice to the person who makes us a sticker design to use in promoting the site. Check out the left column for more details!

This matter has been settled but feel free to have a read through this as some of it is pretty funny. Basically, two idiots started a thread about their conspiracy book called "A Third Truth" and got flamed. Then attempted to sue us for $42.5 million.

Not only where they defeated when Greg Smith couldn't provide any proof that the film was real, yet alone in production. But their reality TV show "Starwalker" was exposed as an alleged scam.

These guys chose the wrong site to mess with as we where able to defend ourselves and also expose these guys and their dodgy methods.

Click the read more for the whole story.

Please note! The Jonathan Nolan mentioned in this is NOT the creative genius Jonathan Nolan behind Memento, The Dark Knight and Inception. Although both share the same name these two people are entirely unrelated and the talented Jonathan Nolan has had nothing at all to do with these shenanigans.

This morning a friend of my mine gave me a copy of an ad he saw in the paper. It's from the government's game council and promotes conservation shooting.

No I am not here to rag on hunting. Or how guns don't make your penis bigger.

But what I'd like to point out is the staging of the ad. You have two dodgy chaps in hoodies drinking whiskey in a cafe called 'Bart's bean'. Next shot, they're all suited up with high powered rifles, ready to kill.

Drinking and shooting. It's officially the Australian way.
